Christmas: Dancing Around The Issues

In a couple short days much of the world will celebrate with a giant birthday party. The birthday bash for Jesus Christ is so epic, the party itself has it’s own name: Christmas. Christmas! CHRIST’s MASS!

My trees have been twinkling since Thanksgiving. Packages are wrapped and cards went out weeks ago. The holidays have been pleasingly unavoidable. Propaganda for the US’s January 2016 Presidential Primary has been irritatingly unavoidable. In preparation for my annual New Year’s Eve Tarot Card reading for the world I have been trying to avoid news and focus on the necessary work of preparing my channel to peer through the darkness at the energy surrounding the world moving into the new year. It hasn’t been easy. US Presidential Primaries don’t happen every year. (Thank God!) In years past my preparation for the NYE event has included a lot of public singing. This year I’ve kept my singing mostly private and instead have been focusing on dance. Movement is powerful.

For the past year I have had the periodic pleasure of dancing on stage at Sirens Studio and Subud Hall in Sebastopol, CA. In addition to dance and yoga classes, concerts and workshops, owner and director, Ms. TerriAnne Gutierrez produces a dance showcase every third Sunday of the month called Beaucoup de Bellies. It is at this event I have had the chance to continue to develop my performance Art. Recently I have taken up learning to dance with a sword. My affinity for swords is rooted in my metalsmithing background, prayerful connection with the angelic realms, and Love of Jesus. Preparing for the celebration of the birth of Christ I have been reflecting upon scripture as well.

And He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; And they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war. -Isaiah 2:4

“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.  Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?  But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” -Matthew 26:52-54

As (mostly) men all over this world are wielding swords, both literally and metaphorically, in acts of aggression and violence, it is once again left to the women to take back those swords and beat the blades into the plowshares this world desperately needs.

The more men have to lose, the less willing are they to venture. The rich are in general slaves to fear, and submit to courtly power with the trembling duplicity of a Spaniel.                            – from Common Sense by Thomas Paine

These words, written by one of my country’s founding patriots, are as applicable today as they were in the times of the founding parents. And so I have turned off the news, but not my heart…or my arms and legs. I offer a prayer of dance for the Highest Good to be served and the Peace of Christ to rest upon this world.

Congratulations to the women of Saudi Arabia for winning the right to vote.
